蜻蜓是无脊椎动物，昆虫纲，蜻蜓目，差翅亚目昆虫的通称。后翅基部比前翅基部稍大，翅脉也稍有不同。休息时四翅展开，平放于两侧。稚虫短粗，具直肠鳃，无尾鳃。包括蜓总科Aeshnoidea、大蜓总科Cordulegastroidea、蜻总科Libelluloidea等3总科，共11科。蜓科和蜻科最为常见，广布于我国各地。
