北京有一首《三轮车》老童谣，是这么唱的：
“三轮车，真时兴，不用脚跑用脚蹬。上前门，逛故宫，东便门外蟠桃宫。坐三轮，心宽松，不用担心打天秤。”
民国初年的北平，满大街都是人拉着跑的双轮车，拉车的人费力不说，一个不留神车斗就往后一翻，也就是童谣里的“打天秤”。
20century30年代以后，三轮车开始流行起来，逐步取代了人力车的地位，人力车夫升级成了三轮车夫，俗称“蹬三轮儿”。
