自从人类有了饮茶习惯后，用于盛放茶叶的容器就开始出现并不断更新，最早的茶叶盒其实不是盒子而是陶罐，夏商时期已有出现；随着物质财富的丰富人类生活水平的提高，慢慢的出现了以为大量的工具取代人类的手工制作，特别是在铁器出现后，生产工具得到了极大的丰富，在春秋战国时期，人们在用铁铸造农耕工具之后出现了铁制兵器与木工铁制工具，于是，木制的茶叶盒开始出现在中国的人类历史上。那时候的茶叶盒是为专门长期盛放茶叶而制作，一般出现在贵族权贵家中的当作特殊器具使用。
