LaserMakerCase: Animal Keychain
Hello everyone, I am a laser expert!LaserMaker2.0It has been a while since the release, and in order to let everyone know what practical features the latest software has, starting today, we will launch it for everyone《LaserMakerLaser Creation Beginner Course ".
In this issue, we will share the method of making animal keychains.
LaserMakerIt is an open-source laser cutting modeling software with advantages such as user-friendly interface, easy operation, and rich functions. It is designed for maker education, allowing more teachers and students to use it immediately and experience itDIYThe joy of creation, turning ideas into reality. I aspire to make modeling accessible to everyone. Next, let's experience the charm of laser creation!
Scenario introduction
Keychain is the most common item in our lives, with high practicality. If this keychain is designed and made by ourselves, it can better express our feelings. Therefore, in this lesson, we will share with you the production of animal keychains.
First, let's open itLaserMakerThe software mainly consists of a file tab bar, a functional area, a drawing toolbar, a drawing area, a gallery panel, a layer palette, and a processing panel, as shown in the following figure:
Bill of Materials
1. Draw the appearance
(1)From the "Drawing Toolbar" on the left, select the "Ellipse" tool, then move the mouse to the drawing area, hold down the left mouse button while holding down the keyboard【Ctrl】Drag and drop the key on the drawing area to draw two diameters45mm、3mmWhen observing that the width and height of the shape in the toolbar are correct, simply release the left mouse button. We will measure the diameter45mmThe perfect circle is set as circle ①, with a diameter of3mmThe regular circle is set as circle ②, with the large circle used as the shape of the keychain and the small circle used as the keyhole, as shown in the following figure:
Tips:When using the rectangle and ellipse tools, drag and hold the shape while holding down the keyboardCtrlPressing the key can draw the aspect ratio1:1Proportional graphics are used to obtain square and circular shapes.
(2)Click the 'Select' tool from the 'Drawing toolbar' on the left to place circle ① directly above circle ②, as shown in the following figure:
Tips:During the drag and drop process of the selected graphic, the software will display the alignment relationship between the graphic and adjacent graphics using auxiliary line prompts.
2. Draw graphic elements
(1)Find the "Animal Graphics" option in the "Gallery Panel" on the right, hold down the left mouse button and drag the "Rabbit" to the drawing area, as shown in the following figure:
(2)Select the graphic "Rabbit", left click on the "Proportional" function in the "Function Area", and set the width and height parameter bar in the "Function Area" to32mmThe high parameters will also change with the original aspect ratio; Select the 'Select' tool from the 'Drawing toolbar' on the left to place the rabbit45mmThe center of a perfect circle, as shown in the following figure:
Tips:The 'Equal Ratio' function in the upper 'Function Area' locks the aspect ratio of the drawn graphic. When entering the width or height, the software will automatically modify the corresponding height or width based on the current aspect ratio of the drawn graphic. If you need to customize the width and height of the drawn graphics,You can unlock it by clicking on the icon.
3. Laser processing
(1)Select the graphic 'Rabbit', left click on the red layer in the lower left corner of the 'Layer Color Palette' to set 'Rabbit' as the red layer
Tips:The black, red, yellow, and blue colors on the layer palette have default processing techniques, including cutting, line drawing, light carving, and deep carving, respectively.
Introduction to Four Processing Techniques cuttingIt refers to setting a higher power and lower speed to cut the object when the laser head is working, with the effect of cutting the material like using a sharp tool.
Draw linesIt refers to setting parameters with lower power and higher speed, so that the laser head will not cut off the object during operation, but only burn some marks on the surface of the workpiece material, with the effect of drawing lines on the surface of the workpiece material like a paintbrush.
Shallow carvingIt refers to the use of a small power setting to create shallow images or text on the surface of an object during laser head operation, with an effect similar to a paintbrush.
deep carvingIt refers to the use of a high power setting to cause the surface of the ablated object to become concave and convex during laser operation, creating a three-dimensional effect similar to a wooden carving knife.
(2)Double click the black layer on the processing panel in the bottom right corner with the mouse, and set the material, thickness, and process to oak board3mmCut, set the material, thickness, and process of the red layer to oak board3mmDraw lines; Left click on the black layer and drag it to the bottom of the layer, as shown in the following figure:
Tips:The processing sequence of the equipment is to press down on the layer of the processing panel and process it from top to bottom. Generally, we place the cutting process layer at the bottom to ensure the integrity of the workpiece.
(3)Click on "Switch" in the bottom right corner of the "Processing Panel" to enter the device management interface under the type of“usb”Click on the "Test" icon on that line, and a "Communication Successful" message will pop up, as shown in the following figure:
TipsBefore connecting the device, it is necessary to use the tools in the toolboxPC-USBDirectly plug the cable into the devicePCInterface and computerUSBConnect the encryption dongle of the toolbox to the computer through the interfaceUSBInterface.
(4)Click on "Start" in the bottom right corner of the "Processing Panel" to upload files to the device, as shown in the following figure:
Tips:When uploading a file with the same name, it will overwrite the files previously uploaded by the device

summary
Looking back at the process of completing this example, first we understandLaserMakerThe page layout of the software is learned during the modeling processLaserMakerI have learned how to use drawing tools such as "Select", "Ellipse", and "Isometric" in the software, as well as how to add graphics and connect software devices from the "Library Panel". I have also gained an understanding of the four processing techniques of laser cutting, allowing me to fully experience the entire process from design drawings to physical production. Turn ideas into reality!
